Kurosawa Masami was born before the Fourth Shinobi War to Kurosawa Suki and  the missing ninja of Takigakure, Kakuzu. Her mother, Suki was a well respected Medical Ninja of the Takigakure village and later revealed to be an Uzumaki clan member. She ended up leaving her position when one of her beloved Students passed away on a mission to Amegakure. She now runs a small inn, fulltime, on the outskirts of Takigakure in the estuary. She will allow ninja's to stay, so long as they do small chores for her (ex: buy groceries, help clean, fix broken windows or walls).

Masami was only raised by her mother as her father was never aware of her existence. As Kimiko, Masami's sensei had stated; "Your father stumbled upon your mother's place when he was on a mission and needed somewheres to wait out the monsoon. He would come back every now and again after that though." What Masami never knew till she was older was that he was the man that had killed the 5 leaders of Takigakure and was a member of the now gone, Akatsuki. Finding out his true identity made her come to terms with a lot about herself and the life she had growing up with a single mother who held grudges.

Masami had always had these faint markings on her skin that her mother claimed to be birthmarks. She would make her hides them with long sleeved shirts and pants as a young child, claiming that the villagers would make fun of her for them. She believed her mother as, mothers know what's best. So she thought. Her relationship with her mother was like that of a wave, always moving up and down. Her mother, Suki would be cold to her, growing angry whenever Masami questioned her father's whereabouts. She would scold Masami for even daring to step out of the house without "covering her birthmarks." Her mother would then turn around, showering Masami with a lot of praise and love for her excellent grades and being a great ninja.

Come to find out later while using The the "Memoripūru" (Memory Pool) in Yumegakure, Her mother had suffered a mental breakdown when Kakuzu never returned to her. He had left her before she had the chance to tell him they conceived Masami. Suki had grown more distraught when Masami was born and she had some of the same features as Kakuzu. The Memory had shown Masami that her mother had even refused to breastfeed her at first as she didn't want her, resorting in Kimiko having to step in and knock some sense into Suki, quite literally. Deep down, Masami knows that her mothers intentions were that of heartbreak but, she could decided whether to forgive her or not for the treatment.

Because of her childhood, Masami's personality is described as aloof to strangers from the constant conditioning her mother had done to her as a young child. Once you're past that part of her personality, Masami is a very passionate ninja, devoted to it in every shape and form. If someone gets the chance to become close with her, she will shower them with encouragement and positivity. Don't be fooled though, she will also be brash with you if you're acting a fool.

One thing that has had such a huge and positive impact on her life, is her best friend Mei Saito. It was all thanks to the two of them growing up together due to Mei's mother, Kimiko being a former student of Suki's, later housemate and then, sensei to Masami. Masami deeply believes that her and Mei are bonded together forever through friendship because of this. This deep feeling is what drove her to never give up her search for him when he went missing after a failed mission to Sunagakure. It drove her to reaching out into the shadows and asking for Orochimaru's help.

Orochimaru had sent her to Konohagakure, looking for assistants from a ex Akatsuki member. She couldn't have regretted her decision more then when she unearthed him, Hidan that is. She couldn't stomach his loud mouth and brash behavior from the start. He was very helpful though as he could share information about who Mei's kidnapper was. During their time together when it was revealed who her father was, Hidan and Masami's bond grew. Masami started to see Mei in Hidan, a lot as they grew close. It was almost scary with how Hidan's loud mouth and violent colored eyes mimicked Mei to a Tee.

When the two visited Hidan's old stomping ground, Yugakure to find Ibu Mori, a Jashinist that trained under Hidan when he visited Otogakure back during his Akatsuki days. She was the last person to see Mei and his kidnapper. Kimiko Saito was there herself, looking for Masami. Masami's world was tilted more when Kimiko revealed to not only her but, Hidan as well that Mei was his child. It was also revealed that the person who took Mei, was the former "deceased" teammate of Kimiko and Suki's, Gake no Chouko. The more the Parallel connected, the more Masami could see as to why her mom kept things from her. Life was confusing to say the least.

Recovering Mei came with a price for Masami though. Her mother's health had shockingly dropped to everyone's surprise since she is an Uzumaki. Her mother could not move around as quickly as she could at one point due to her heart having issues. That did not stop Suki from coming to rescue when Chouko had come to attack the Five Hokage Summit, planning to end the peaceful treaty that was established after the Fourth Shinobi War. Using all the energy she had left, Masami’s mother went into full attack mode, attempting to take down Chouko. All the chakra she exserted caused her to die from a failing heart. Masami cradled her mother, comforting her before she slipped away. Suki was able to apologize to her though, letting her know that she loved her as much as she loved her father, she just had a hard time showing to her. Masami only shushed her, telling her to let it go and that she already had forgiven her.

- Masami (正美) means "become, beautiful" and Kurosawa (黒沢)means "black, Marsh"

- It’s always been a mystery as to why Masami has red hair since it’s a recessive trait. Speculation says that one of Kakuzu’s parents had red hair as well.

- She enjoys reading books and laying out in the sunlight.

- Masami absolutely loves cats.

-She will only eat sweets during a festival as that's when they are made to perfection.
